In collaboration with Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Canon is located in Goto City, out of the 12 assets that make up the “Hidden Christian Sites in Nagasaki and Amakusa Region” registered as a World Cultural Heritage in 2018. We have produced an ultra-high-definition 8K video that introduces “the village of Hisakajima” and “the village of Egami in Narushima (Egami Catholic Church and its surroundings)”.
For shooting, Canon’s 8K camera and “EF Cinema Lens”, which boasts a rich lineup from wide-angle to telephoto, were used. It takes advantage of the high expressiveness of high-definition images unique to 8K, the wide dynamic range and high color reproducibility of Canon 8K cameras.
I think Canon will use this video as an opportunity to contribute to the revitalization of the tourism and local industries in Goto City. We would like to record the precious culture and beautiful nature of Goto City with ultra-high-definition images and contribute to passing them on to future generations.
This time, we are producing two 8K videos that feature each of the world heritage islands, Hisaka Island and Naru Island, which were the setting of the video. Please take a look at the beautiful images that are full of the charm of Goto.
In addition to being published at the above URL, you can watch the video on Canon’s 8K display at Goto City Hall from 13:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, October 10th. After the same day, 4K image quality and full at Kugashima Tourism Exchange Center, Naru Port Terminal 2nd Floor World Heritage Temporary Exhibition Hall, Nagasaki Port Terminal Building, Nagasaki Airport, Nagasaki Prefectural Office Entrance, Nagasaki Prefecture Antenna Shop “Nihonbashi Nagasakikan” You can see it in HD quality.
In addition, a 3-minute video “Goto Islands World Cultural Heritage Prayer Island” is also available, which is an excerpt of the highlights from two 8K videos of Hisaka Island and Naru Island.
>Goto Islands World Cultural Heritage Prayer Island
・ The facial expressions of the people are wonderful, and especially when a woman wearing a white veil is praying quietly, I was impressed by the realistic depiction of the 8K video that conveys the feelings of the woman.
・ The scenery of the sea was beautifully taken, and it was nice to see it. I was reminded of the natural beauty of Goto, such as the deep greenery of the mountains.
・ I was impressed by the beautiful 8K video, which made me feel the height of the dignity.
・ I thought it was wonderful that the lives of the people on the island were reflected.
・ The sky full of stars taken in front of Hamawaki Church on Hisaka Island was a masterpiece. It would be great if many people from all over the world, not just Japan, could learn about the wonderful history and culture of Goto through this video.
We are working on the development of a wide range of 8K equipment from input to output, such as cameras, lenses, and displays, using our unique optical and image processing technology.
The 8K camera used for shooting is equipped with an in-house developed 8K sensor and has 8,192 x 4,320 pixels, which is about 4 times the resolution of 4K and about 16 times the resolution of 2K, and has ultra-high definition, high dynamic range, and wide color gamut. It is possible to express the texture, atmosphere, and presence as if the real thing were in front of you.
In addition to the equipment, we are also working on the practical application of “video space solutions” that realize a sense of presence and immersion as if you were there.
Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is located at the westernmost tip of Kyushu, about 100 kilometers west of Nagasaki Prefecture. Located in the southwestern part of the Goto Islands, which consists of 152 large and small islands, it has a total area of 420.1 square kilometers and consists of 11 manned and 52 uninhabited islands.
Registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2018, “Hidden Christian Sites in Nagasaki and Amakusa Region” tells the history of people who secretly transmitted Christianity under the ban on Christianity from the 17th century to the 19th century over more than two centuries. This is unprecedented evidence.
This asset reveals how Kakure Kirishitan continued to worship in relation to existing societies and religions in the remote islands of the westernmost part of Japan, and their religious traditions after the ban was lifted. It shows how the end was reached.
