OnigiriBurger ‘Eel Kabayaki – Double Eggs’, newly launched as part of Kansai International Airport OnigiriBurger 1st anniversary menu.

2024.12.13

Unagi × Onigiri Burger, a new style of airport gourmet food featuring the much talked about ‘eel’, has been on sale since 5 December 2024 (Thursday).
The entire Onigiri Burger menu has been developed by the owner of the hard-to-book counter-only restaurant ‘Kizuna’ in Kyobashi, Osaka. The “ultimate Japanese taste” of carefully selected ingredients and Japanese craftsmanship, from the rice and seaweed to the ingredients and seasonings, can be enjoyed easily in one hand, just like a hamburger.

The first anniversary menu is the Onigiri Burger, starring the auspicious broiled eel, which has been selected as the ‘dish of the year®’.

Eels have long been a good luck charm in Japan and are known as a healthy ingredient that helps to relieve fatigue and tonic. In particular, the fragrant eel cooked ‘kabayaki’ has a perfect balance of rich taste and fat, and the sweet and spicy sauce is a perfect match with the hot rice in the OnigiriBurger.

OnigiriBurger is proud to offer the first anniversary menu ‘Eel Kabayaki – Double Egg’ Onigiri Burger to those departing from Kansai International Airport to help them recharge their batteries for their journey with the nutritious ‘eel’ and to provide a special moment before boarding to fill them up both mentally and physically. We hope to deliver a special time that fills you up both physically and mentally before boarding.

Exquisite harmony created by the intertwining of rice, laver, eel kabayaki, special pepper and secret special sauce.

Fragrant ariake laver and fluffy rice form the base for a luxurious layer of grilled eel kabayaki, which is steamed in the Edo style and has a ‘mochi’ (sticky) texture.

The thick, fatty eel is beautifully intertwined with the special eel sauce created for this menu by the owner of the famous restaurant, a master of the art of Japanese cuisine, and the flavour of the eel soaks into every grain of rice.

The balance of the whole dish is enhanced by the fresh and fragrant ‘sansho’ (Japanese pepper) of the ryotei class. It blends beautifully with the rich, sweet and spicy eel sauce and the juicy fat that spreads over the tongue, giving it a pleasant stimulation and a rich, lingering aromatic aftertaste.
