“Kyoto Hiyokeya” is the first country-registered tangible cultural property in the Usami area (Izu Ito Onsen).

Tabinoya Resort Co., Ltd. operates the “Old House Kappo Hiyokeya” (formerly Fukasawa House Housing) in Usami, Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Following the deliberations and resolutions of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Cultural Council held on March 19, 2020, the Cultural Council reported to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In the future, it will be registered as a tangible cultural property after the official report. For the first time in the Usami area of Ito City, it is the seventh registered tangible cultural property (building) in Ito City.
To commemorate this, from April 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020, a special campaign will be implemented to reduce meals and accommodation at four Tabinoya Resort facilities.

■ A lucky “fire ward” house that escaped many large fires

Former Fukasawa family in Usami, Ito. He was involved in the shipping business, which relays tuna and other marine products, and is believed to have been involved in merchant and banking business, mainly in the management of forests and fields, during the Meiji era.
This mansion, built in 1919, has survived a miraculous escape from the fire in the Usami area, where many large fires struck. It is said that the people of the earth have come to call them “houses for fire protection” as if they respect the blessings of heaven.
In December 2018, it was reborn as a gastronomic and peaceful space called “Kyoto Hiyokeya”. Japanese cuisine, which uses abundant Izu foods and is eaten in a building with a history of more than 100 years, is a Japanese tradition that you can enjoy with your five senses. You can enjoy a special moment.

* What is a tangible cultural property (building)?
In principle, of the historic buildings 50 years after construction, they are based on the registration criteria of , being the norm of modeling, and not easy to reproduce. It is a building registered by the country. After the Cultural Council reports to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, it is officially registered after registration in the Register for Cultural Properties and notification in the Official Gazette.

Taisho’s mansion was built on the coastal street facing Sagami Bay. The shovels of the Shoin, the kumiko ranma, the window glass, and the design of the round window were miraculously preserved. It can be said that it is a high-quality structure that is conscious of waiting on customers while being a house.

ZIPANGU Contemporary artists who have run through the Heisei era” Takashi Murakami x Sueo Mizuma dialogue: ‘Beyond the Theory of Artistic Entrepreneurship’ / Interview with Mr. Mizuma: ‘Rediscovering the Value of Japanese Culture by the Japanese People

The Hiroshima Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition “ZIPANGU: Contemporary Artists Who Defined the Heisei Era” (November 2, 2024 – December 22, 2024). This showcase brings together works by some of the most prominent figures in Japan’s contemporary art scene, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, Yoshitomo Nara, Chiharu Shiota, Izumi Kato, Akira Yamaguchi, and Miwa Komatsu. The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.
