“Curation Hotel” is a place to connect Japan’s proud tradition of beauty to the future with innovative design.

2021.03.05

“Curation Hotel (R)” will open its grand opening in Atami City on March 6, 2021.

A curation hotel is a hotel that offers a stay in a space where selected traditional building materials, traditional crafts, and art are alive, as a “place” that connects Japan’s proud tradition of beauty to the future with innovative designs.

This time, as the first step, three facilities, “Momono Hachian,” “Sudo Suien,” and “Momoyama Masaen,” will be grand-opened in Atami Higashiyama.

All of them are renovation and renovation projects, and the sustainable policy of reducing waste materials and CO2, preserving traditional architecture, and handing down traditional carpentry techniques and crafts is adhered to, and innovation with the addition of “connoisseurs (curation)”. The architecture, which is said to be a negative heritage, has been recreated with new value.

All three facilities have already won a prize in the global design award, and the innovative traditional Japanese beauty drawn by the curation hotel has already gained worldwide acclaim.

Our vision for the future is to become the core of local arts and crafts tourism, expand facilities throughout the country, and open up new possibilities for traditional crafts and art.

1. 桃乃八庵(Tonoya An)
At the former inn annex, which was built 88 years ago, an old private house that had been left unattended for 5 years and was on the verge of being demolished has been fully renovated, including earthquake resistance and housing performance repairs.

The abundant and valuable traditional designs of the time of construction are preserved, and traditional crafts and contemporary art collected by the owner / designer’s connoisseurs are added to the bold renovation with traditional materials and carpentry techniques, and the old and new of the times -A design that combines tradition and innovation, which is a fusion of the east and west of the West, has been completed.

The 87-year-old luxurious traditional building has been renovated to improve earthquake resistance and housing performance, and while making the best use of the original design, gold and blue are used as key colors to create a gorgeous design reminiscent of the Rinpa school.

For example, more than 100 shoji doors have been traditionally washed and regenerated as a loose barrier of 85 square meters of LDK. It is a masterpiece that the owners of art enthusiasts who also own a private museum sparkle in the new space design of the works of art collected for this house for generations.

The works from a young age, the repurchased items of Japanese art that flowed out to Europe at the end of the Edo period, and traditional crafts, supported by the owner who is also an aspiring artist, add a dramatic look.
