January 26 is “Izumo Day,” the start of a new year at Izumo Taisha Shrine.

January 26 was established as “Izumo Day” as a day for citizens and visitors to rediscover the charm of Izumo and wish for its development. Why not start the year off with a special visit to Izumo-taisha Shrine, which is crowded with visitors on Hatsumode (New Year’s visit), only during this special time of the year?

Izumo Taisha Yatsugatame Special Visit

This is a special visit to the Yatsushimon Gate of Izumo-taisha Shrine, which is normally off-limits to visitors. Normally, visitors to Izumo-taisha worship from outside the Yatsushimon Gate, which is located in front of the main hall, but on this occasion, visitors can view the main hall, a national treasure, up close from inside.

Duration: Wednesday, January 25 to Tuesday, January 31, 5th year of Reiwa
Time: 9:30-11:30
14:30-16:30
Number of recruits: 20 people each (minimum 10 people)
*Limited to guests staying in Izumo city
Price: 3,000 yen for adults and children (free for preschoolers)

Izumo Taisha Shrine, Izumo no Hi "Night Kagura Special Prayer

Izumo Taisha Shrine, Izumo no Hi “Special Night Kagura Prayer”. We are pleased to announce that we will be able to offer a special night kagura prayer service during the Shinzai Festival in October of the lunar calendar.

Duration: January 27th (Friday) and 28th (Thursday), 5th year of Reiwa
Time: 17:00-18:00
Number of recruits: 150 people each *Limited to those staying in Izumo city
Price: 2,000 yen (applicable for children who need a seat)
Prayer fee: 5,000 yen per request
