[Hoshinoya Tokyo] “Eighty-eight Nights of New Tea Experience,” a time to taste new tea and tea sweets from a tea farmer who has been in business since the Edo period.

2023.04.15

Hoshinoya Tokyo will offer “88 Nights of New Tea Experience” from May 1 to 5, 2023, to enjoy the season in accordance with the calendar.

The 88th day counting from Risshun, or the 88th night of the year, has long been regarded as the season for plucking new tea. In the Edo period (1603-1867), new tea picked on this day was prized for its high nutritional value and as a good omen for longevity. As summer approaches, we hope you will enjoy the season by tasting the first harvest of new tea.

Gyokuro and tea sweets to enjoy the flavor and aroma

“Sae Midori” from Moriuchi Tea Farm, a Shizuoka tea farm that has been in business since the Edo period, carefully brewed at low temperature. Also offered along with the tea are raw white chocolate-covered graham crackers.

Enjoy Sencha in various ways of brewing and eating

Choose one of three types, and savor it carefully from one to two roasts, and then to the ice brewing.

Iris bath to ward off evil spirits

To enjoy the season, we prepare iris baths in guest rooms on 88th night, which falls at the same time of the year.
