In Ginzan Onsen, a popular nostalgic hot spring resort town, a historical building built in the art deco style that was common in Japan in the Taisho and Showa periods before World War II, was revived by a master craftsman in the “Honkan Kosekiya” hotel on July 1, 2022.
〜"Japan Deco" is a reinterpretation of art deco with a Japanese sensibility.
Art Deco, which originated in France in the 1920s and 1930s and flourished in the United States, replaced Art Nouveau, an artistic movement that flourished in Europe from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
It is estimated that the first and second floors were built in the Taisho era (1912-1926) and the third floor in the early Showa era (1926-1989).
〜The appearance of the building was recreated as it was at the time of its construction.
In the past, many of the buildings in Ginzan Onsen were constructed or restored using timber from their own backyards. This resulted in a unique landscape where different styles from different eras coexisted in the buildings that had been built over the years.
The renovation of the “Honkan Koseki-ya” was carried out by reusing old materials as much as possible and using traditional Japanese woodworking techniques to recreate the original appearance. The use of new materials was unavoidable, but the coloring was left as it was to respect the character of the local building and the taste that time has fostered.

Facing the hot spring resort overlooking the Ginzan River, the room is a modern Japanese/Western style room with wooden flooring and two semi-double beds. The traditional distorted glass lattice windows can be used as veranda balustrades in the summer for a liberating and relaxing experience.

The pure Japanese-style rooms are full of historical romance, retaining as much as possible the skills and attention to detail of the successive generations of craftsmen involved in the construction of the main building of Koseki-ya.
