“Kimono” craftsman support project first! “A mask that looks good on kimono”

2020.08.27

“Suzunoki Co., Ltd.” has launched a project to support kimono craftsmen. As the first step of the project, in order to enjoy the Japanese lifestyle while utilizing the skills of craftsmen in the corona era, we will make a custom order sale of “masks that look good with kimono”.

As the first step, the Tango crepeen fabric woven in the Tango region of Kyoto, which is the kimono fabric producing area, is subjected to antivirus, antibacterial, and deodorant processing, and craftsmen over 40 years on this road are one by one with Kyo Yuzen’s technology. We sell hand-dyed masks.

This project is planned to be the second and third series, and we will support the creators of kimono, such as Nishijin weavers, embroidery craftsmen, and family crest craftsmen.

Supporting Kyo Yuzen dyeing craftsmen

Many craftsmen who make kimono, a traditional craft, are also struggling with this corona blight. We thought it necessary to take on new challenges in order to maintain the traditional techniques that have been passed down for many years. We also started this project because we believe that the challenge will also support the craftsmen.

You wear a kimono and go out with a non-woven mask?

With the recent increasing demand for masks in Corona, the wearing of masks has become common both in Japan and overseas.
Under such circumstances, he said, “I would like to wear “kimono” to go out, but a non-woven mask makes me feel uncomfortable.” “Is it possible to do total coordination, including the mask?” I received many voices like this. I wanted to sell “a mask that looks good on kimono” that allows you to enjoy going out with kimono, not only for functionality but also for emotional masks.

[Hoshinoya Tokyo] “New Year’s Kabuki Stay” brings the hospitality of an Edo Period theatrical teahouse to the present day.

Hoshinoya Tokyo, a Japanese-style inn located in Otemachi, Tokyo, will again this year host the “New Year Kabuki Stay” program, a two-day and one-night stay from January 5 to 26, 2024.
For people living in Edo, one of their New Year’s pleasures was to watch Kabuki, and it was a chic way to spend the New Year. Theatrical teahouses supported this way of enjoying Kabuki. In addition to arranging tickets to the theater, the teahouses delighted patrons by providing a complete range of services, including plot notes, tea, sweets, makunouchi box lunches, and snacks and drinks (*1). Hoshinoya Tokyo offers a stay to celebrate the New Year with hospitality similar to the theatrical teahouses of the time.

[Shinjuku Gyoen x Naked] NAKED Autumn Foliage in Shinjuku Gyoen 2023 to be held

From November 22 (Wed) to December 3 (Sun), 2023, an autumn foliage lighting event will be held at Shinjuku Gyoen. Following the cherry blossom event this spring, Shinjuku Gyoen and Naked will collaborate again this fall for the autumn foliage event. Shinjuku Gyoen, one of Tokyo’s most famous gardens, is one of the few places in the city where visitors can enjoy the autumn leaves. The 200-meter-long rows of plane trees, the best maple tree spot in the city, Momijiyama, and the “Middle Pond,” with its spectacular reflection in the pond, will offer a world where the autumn leaves of Shinjuku Gyoen and Naked’s art and food are fused together.
