It preserves the beautiful samurai residence street formed by the samurai residences lined around Obi Castle, the stately samurai gate, and the stone walls of Obi stone, and conveys the lifestyle of samurai and merchants in the Edo period to the present.
In 1977, it was designated as Kyushu’s first preservation area for important traditional buildings. There are also sightseeing spots in the vicinity, such as Sakamoto Tanada, which was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Rice Terraces, and Udo Jingu Shrine, which is built in a cliff cave.
